MONTICELLO, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 15, 2018--
Empire
Resorts, Inc. (NasdaqGM: NYNY) (together with its subsidiaries, the
“Company”) lauds the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down PASPA
and thereby open the door to expanded legalization of sports betting.
“We are prepared to implement sports betting as part of the gaming
experience at our resort casino, Resorts World Catskills, upon the
formulation of relevant regulations in New York State,” said Ryan Eller,
President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company. “We believe the
ruling has the potential to transform how Americans bet on sports and we
are one of the few New York State venues that can be authorized to host
a sports pool under New York’s Gaming Act. It is our hope that New York
State will be ready for New Yorkers to place legal sports bets in time
for the fall football season, baseball’s World Series, or even sooner.”
The New York State Gaming Commission will need to formulate regulations
to govern sports pools before the Company can apply for a license to
offer sports betting at Resorts World Catskills.
The Company held the Grand Opening of Resorts World Catskills this past
weekend from May 11 through May 13. Headlining the festivities was a
performance by legendary comedian and producer Jerry Seinfeld. The
celebration will continue throughout the month of May with a performance
by award-winning singer and songwriter Gavin DeGraw, who is a native of
Sullivan County, New York, on Friday, May 18. The grand opening of
Cellaio, an Italian steakhouse created by celebrity chef Scott Conant,
will follow on May 19.
